Why is the vertical clearance higher for turning procedures?

According to CAO 20.7.1B, if a heading change is planned after engine failure at V1, the aircraft’s net flight path must:
  • Clear all obstacles by at least 50 feet before initiating the turn.
  • Maintain at least 50 feet vertical clearance throughout the turn.
  • Not exceed a 15° bank angle during the turn.
