What is the difference between “gross” and “net” flight path performance?

Gross flight path refers to the demonstrated performance of the aircraft when flown according to the manufacturer’s procedures—this is what’s shown in the AFM.

Net flight path is a conservative version of the gross path, reduced by a regulatory margin based on the number of engines. This degraded path is used to ensure obstacle clearance under engine-out conditions.
