What causes gradient loss in a turn?

When an aircraft turns, the bank angle increases the effective weight due to increased load factor (G-force). This reduces the aircraft’s climb performance. For example, a 15° bank results in a load factor of 1.035, meaning the aircraft behaves as if it’s 3.5% heavier. This reduces the climb gradient, which must be accounted for when evaluating obstacle clearance.
