How does APG determine the level-off height for obstacle clearance?
APG reports the gross level-off height required to ensure the net flight path clears all obstacles.
For example, if an obstacle is 1,940 ft high and 28,000 ft away, the required gross level-off height would be:
1,940 ft + (0.008 × 28,000 ft) = 2,164 ft
This ensures the net path clears the obstacle by the required 35 ft margin.
