Why can’t I cancel my flight plan in Pilot ONE?

Why can’t I cancel my flight plan in Pilot ONE?

Normally, cancelling a flight plan in Pilot ONE is quick and easy.

How to cancel your flight plan in Pilot ONE

  1. Open your flight in Pilot ONE and go to the File screen.

  2. Tap Cancel in the top right.

  3. Tap Yes to confirm.

You’ll see a confirmation message once the cancellation is processed.

If the cancel option isn’t working

If you’re unable to cancel the flight plan, it’s usually because your departure time is within the ATC lock-out window.

Once you’re within about 46 minutes of your filed departure time — and sometimes longer depending on the departure facility — the Leidos Flight Service system prevents electronic changes to the flight plan.

Because this restriction comes from the Flight Service system itself, it applies to all aviation apps, so Pilot ONE isn’t able to override it.

What to do instead

The fastest solution is to call Flight Service directly so a briefer can cancel the flight plan for you.

📞 1-800-WX-BRIEF (1-800-992-7433)

When you call, have the following information ready:

  • Tail number

  • Departure airport

  • Destination airport

  • Filed departure time

The briefer can cancel the plan and coordinate with ATC if needed.

Important reminder for VFR flights

If you're flying VFR, remember to close your flight plan within 30 minutes of your estimated arrival time.

If a VFR flight plan isn’t closed, search and rescue procedures may be initiated.
